In line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we continuously explore new ways to reduce the carbon footprint of every exhibition stand we design and build. Each year, we evaluate our progress and develop innovative solutions to further reduce our environmental impact.

Messeforum’s stand construction business is founded on Messeforum’s climate strategy and detailed analysis of the emissions caused by our operations.

We began developing our climate strategy and planning how to calculate the carbon footprint of our exhibition stands in 2019. Since then, we have bee a pioneer in exhibition stand carbon footprint calculations, taking a comprehensive and detailed approach to emissions assessment.

Our journey began with  identifying the sources of emissions associated with the design, construction, and dismantling of our exhibition stands and linking the data to reliable emission factors. Today, this extensive groundwork forms the foundation of our highly advanced, automated carbon footprint calculation process.

Our partner in calculating and analysing emissions is OpenCO2net Oy, a company specializing in greenhouse gas emissions calculation, monitoring, and reporting.

OpenCO2net reviews the principles and methodologies of our emissions calculations and verifies the calculation results.

We use a custom-built, automated carbon footprint calculator that integrates with our design software and retrieves up-to-date emission factors directly from the OpenCO2 emissions database via an API.

The calculations are based on internationally recognized guidelines and comply with the ISO 14067 standard for carbon footprint calculating.

The carbon footprint calculation at Messeforum Oy is highly detailed. It covers emissions throughout the entire life cycle of the exhibition stand.

The calculation includes, among other things, construction materials, furniture and equipment, transport, electricity used at the stand and transport of materials generated during dismantling to waste treatment or reuse. Even the travel and accommodation of Messeforum’s project management and construction teams in connection with the trade fair are included in the calculation.

Our commitment to calculating the carbon footprint of every exhibition stand we build, combined with the exceptional level of detail and accuracy, makes us unique in the exhibition stand construction industry.

Energy and materials play a key role in reducing the carbon footprint

We reduce the carbon dioxide emissions caused by our stands by improving the efficiency of our use of materials, choosing low-emission materials and encouraging a circular economy. We re-use materials and furniture as far as possible, while ensuring that our exhibition stands are always stylish and of high quality. We are also developing new, lower-emission solutions for exhibition stand construction.

The electricity used in our stands is always from renewable energy sources where available. The waste from dismantling our stands is sorted and processed in line with the exhibition centres’ recycling programmes.

At the same time, we are also committed to reducing our carbon footprint in all our operations, e.g. including our own office environment in which we use only renewable energy. We also favour paperless and remote work. We are committed to reducing our emissions in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
